DR O'KELLY'S WILD GARLIC

A magical afternoon picking wild garlic at Dr P. B. O'Kelly's Glenarra House in the Burren, Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. Dr O'Kelly became well-known in botanical and horticultural circles. He is still highly spoke of in the village by the locals. It is said Dr O'Kelly walked the limestone hills most days in search of plants. He was known in horticultural circles for his collection of rare orchids and ferns. There are a number of plants named after him for his contribution to horticulture. Glenarra House is now in ruins but every year the garden fills itself with blooming wild garlic. It is a site to see and smell.
